Ever had a hard time talkin’ to folks you know about the relationships between different forms of oppression? We have! So we doctored up this tool that we use in workshops to help us. Check it out, and if you are facilitating for a group, it has possible discussion questions at the end!

Comment from Ana Mercado about how she used this tool:
I modified this excersize a bit to be more interactive and it has worked well the few times I’ve tried it. I had participants split up in small groups and each group took a long sheet of butcher paper with one identity group at the top. they had to answer three questions about this id group on thier paper. The ones I used were: What are the stereotypes about this group? How is this group isolated or kept separate? In what forms does this group experience violence?
Then we put the peices together to form a giant version of this oppression chart. to debreif I ask the questions at the bottom of the original document. Its was particularly useful to us for making the point that disability oppression is on par with other oppressions.
